Prof. Benedikt Schmidt is a Junior Professor for Theological Ethics at the Central Institute for Catholic Theology (IKT) of Humboldt University of Berlin. Since 2025, he also serves as Deputy Director and Director of Studies at the IKT. His research focuses on theological ethics in pluralistic societies, Islamic-Christian dialogue, biomedical ethics, and methodological questions in moral theology. He holds a Venia legendi (Habilitation) in Moral Theology from the University of Bonn (2023) and a theology doctorate from the University of Freiburg (2016), recognized with the Bischof-Hemmerle Prize.
- Teaching & Research: Chair of Theological Ethics, leading courses on ethics in biomedical contexts and religious pluralism.
- Memberships: Working Group on Moral Theology, Academy for Ethics in Medicine, Ethics Network Christianity and Islam, and Berlin Archbishop's Commission for Interreligious Dialogue.
His career includes roles as Visiting Professor (2019–2020) and training in higher education didactics (2017–2018). Research collaborations involve the International Research Training Group on 'Transformative Religion' and the Center for Interreligious Theology at Humboldt University.
