About
Dr. Benedetta Dini is an Assistant Professor in Environmental Sciences at the University of Birmingham's School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. She holds a PhD in Engineering Geology from ETH Zurich (2019), MSc in Geophysical Hazards from UCL (2007), and dual undergraduate degrees in Geology (Università Milano-Bicocca) and Piano (Conservatorio di Musica G. Verdi Milano). Her research focuses on landslides, combining InSAR remote sensing, fieldwork, and spatial analyses to improve hazard monitoring and community resilience in the Global South. She specializes in slope instability mechanisms, environmental factors influencing landslides, and innovative technologies like IoT-based sensors for mass movement tracking.
Her work spans geology, geomorphology, and coastal/periglacial environments, with recent projects in Bhutan, Nepal, and the Tibetan Plateau. She has pioneered InSAR methods for precursory landslide detection and contributed to ice loss studies in permafrost regions. Dini also holds a Mental Health First Aider certification (2023), reflecting her commitment to holistic academic well-being.
Her publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, blending engineering geology with advanced signal processing techniques. Key themes include regional landslide preconditioning factors, dam safety assessments, and Himalayan tectonic processes. She collaborates internationally on projects combining geophysical hazards and climate science impacts.
