Dr. Ben Tyrer is a Lecturer in Film Theory at Middlesex University's Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, School of Film, London. With a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, his research explores intersections of film, philosophy, and psychoanalysis. Previously teaching positions include King's College London, University of York, and University of Exeter.
Research interests include film-philosophy, psychoanalytic film theory, ideology critique, European art cinema, and representations of gender/sexuality. Tyrer serves on the editorial board of Film-Philosophy journal.
Recent publications explore plasticity in film theory, horror television aesthetics, and Lacanian analysis of sci-fi. His monograph examines Lacanian approaches to film noir.
