Ben Trachtenberg

Ben Trachtenberg is a Professor at the University of Missouri School of Law, where he has taught since 2010. His expertise includes Criminal Procedure, Evidence, and Professional Responsibility, with a focus on constitutional law and higher education policy.

• Education: JD from Columbia Law School, MA in International Studies from the University of Limerick, BA from Yale in Political Science.

His research explores intersections of criminal justice, constitutional law, and legal education reform. Recent publications analyze Title IX adjudication, public influence on university governance, and lessons from student protests.

• Teaching Awards: Gold Chalk Award (2012), Provost’s Outstanding Junior Faculty Teaching Award (2014), Husch Blackwell Distinguished Faculty Award (2015).

Trachtenberg held leadership roles including Chair of the MU Faculty Council on University Policy (2015–2017), Director of Undergraduate Studies (2019–present), and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (2021–2025). He co-authored the open-access casebook Criminal Procedure: A Free Law School Casebook with Anne Alexander.
