Dr Ben Oliver is a Lecturer in Sport Rehabilitation at the University of Hull, part of the Faculty of Health Sciences within the School of Sport Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences. He joined the university in 2020 after completing his PhD at the University of Salford. His research focuses on sports rehabilitation, with expertise in Achilles tendinopathy assessment using infrared thermal imaging and concussion management in rugby. He is a Fellow of Advance HE and has held leadership roles including Programme Director.
Education: BSc from University of Central Lancashire, PhD from University of Salford, PCAP qualification from University of Hull.
Research Interests: Ben’s work spans clinical applications of thermal imaging, exercise-based rehabilitation strategies, and athlete safety in contact sports. He has contributed to studies on prehabilitation protocols for orthopaedic surgery and concussion awareness in rugby, emphasizing translational research between academic and professional settings.
Grants & Projects: Co-investigator on a £6,413 grant (2023) exploring orthotics’ influence on foot biomechanics. Supervises PhD/Master’s students researching neurocognition in sports injuries and pitchside injury protocols with World Rugby.
Awards: Recognized as a Fellow of Advance HE for educational excellence.
Clinical Work: Developed the student-led HIP-Hub clinic and created graduate employment pathways in sports rehabilitation. Serves as a Level 3 Pre-Hospital Immediate Care practitioner and instructor for the Rugby Football Union.
