Dr Ben Macpherson is a Senior Lecturer in Vocal Theatres at the University of Portsmouth's Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, specializing in interdisciplinary voice studies and musical theatre scholarship. He has held academic positions at the University of Winchester and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and served as BA (Hons) Musical Theatre Course Leader (2014-2023) and academic link tutor for Portsmouth's partnership with Laine Theatre Arts since 2020.

His research focuses on vocal aesthetics in musical theatre, cultural identity in British musicals, extended vocal practices, and musical theatre dramaturgy. Current projects include exploring site-specific musical audio-walks and historical Portsmouth connections to early American theatre. He led Portsmouth's REF submission to UoA33 and developed postgraduate research provision during his interim Section Lead role (2017-2019).
