Ben Byrne is a Senior Lecturer in RMIT University's School of Design whose practice creates listening situations addressing technological, ecological, and social challenges. His research explores sonic attention through experimental sound works, theoretical writing, and community-focused programs.
He founded the RMIT Speaker Orchestra and has curated 34 concerts using its 32-channel spatial audio system. Current teaching in 'Resonant Ecologies' examines sonic approaches to environmental crisis, while research collaborations include soundscape studies and archival preservation initiatives.
His creative practice encompasses electroacoustic composition, gallery installations, and VR sound designs exhibited internationally. As co-leader of the Design and Sonic Practice Research Group, he contributes to building sustainable frameworks for sonic arts research.
