Ben Azvine

Ben Azvine is a Visiting Professor of Security Systems at the University of Suffolk and a BT Distinguished Engineer leading BT’s global cyber security research programme. He oversees strategic innovation, directs research teams, and collaborates with academic/industrial partners. His roles include Head of Business Intelligence & Customer Analytics Research at BT Group’s CTO office and leadership in AI-driven IT systems research since 1995.

• Education: BSc Mechanical Engineering; MSc Control Engineering (Manchester University); PhD Intelligent Control Systems (Manchester University); MBA (Imperial College London).

Research focuses on AI/ML in cybersecurity, threat detection, visual analytics for cyber defense, cloud security, anomaly detection in network data, and future identity/access management. He has published over 100 articles on intelligent systems applications and holds 70 patent applications.

Awards include IET Gold Medal and BCS accolades. He also holds visiting professorships at Bristol, Cranfield, and Bournemouth Universities, alongside FIET and FITP fellowships.

Current projects emphasize automated threat response, critical infrastructure protection, and advanced analytics for cybersecurity. His work bridges academia and industry through collaborative R&D initiatives.
