Bei Chen is an Associate Professor of Instruction in Chinese at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), affiliated with the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology. Previously held positions include Senior Lecturer at UTD and multiple roles at the University of North Texas and China Communication University. Holds an M.A. in French Literature (University of North Texas, 2007), an M.A. in Translation and Theory (Beijing International Studies University, 2003), and a B.A. in French Literature (Beijing International Studies University, 2000).
Research focuses on Chinese language pedagogy, translation studies, and fantasy literature. Notable works include contributions to the 2012 Annual Collection of Best Chinese Fantasy Fiction and translation of Istanbul from French to Chinese. Active in professional organizations like the Chinese Language Teachers Association of Texas (CLTA-TX), serving as Secretary (2014–2016) and Board Member (2011–2014).
Received grants from the Chinese Consulate-General and Confucius Institute Headquarters in 2009. Engages in cultural outreach through tea ceremony workshops and faculty training on Chinese name pronunciation. Holds a Senior Tea Master certification (2017) and pursues musical interests in piano and guzheng.
