Behzad Borhan

Behzad Borhan is a Lecturer in Persian Language at the Institute of Islamic Studies, McGill University. He completed his Ph.D. in Persian Language and Literature at the University of Tehran in 2020 and is currently pursuing a second Ph.D. at McGill’s Institute of Islamic Studies. His interdisciplinary research bridges Persian and Arabic mystical literature, focusing on Sufism and the concept of karāmat (miracle).

His research has been published in journals like Iranian Studies Journal and Adab-e Fārsī, with a focus on Sufi narratives, Rumi’s works, and textual criticism. He has presented extensively at conferences including MEA 2023 and MESA 2022, exploring the evolution of karāmat in Sufi literature.

Borhan has held academic roles at the University of Tehran and served as a Visiting Scholar at Yale University’s Department of Religious Studies (2017–2019). His work intertwines Persian literature with traditional music for pedagogical innovation.
