Behnaz Mirzai

Prof. Behnaz Mirzai is an Associate Professor at Brock University, Canada since 2006, following a position at Southern Methodist University (2005–2006). She holds a PhD from York University (2004). Her research focuses on slavery, African diaspora studies, ethnic minorities, cultural analysis, and documentary film, with regional expertise in the Middle East, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean, Iran, Ottoman Empire, and Persian Gulf regions. She contributes to research programs on Peace and Security, and Global Orders and Foreign Policies. Affiliated with the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) as an expert, though her primary academic appointment remains at Brock University.
