Begüm Demir

Begüm Demir is a Professor and Head of the Remote Sensing Image Analysis (RSiM) Group at the Technische Universität Berlin, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Her work focuses on leveraging machine learning and deep learning techniques for scalable processing and information discovery from Earth observation (EO) data, particularly multi-modal satellite imagery.

• Research Highlights: Development of the BigEarthNet dataset, Agora-EO ecosystem for EO data literacy, and projects like TreeSatAI and IDEAL-VGI integrating EO data with wireless communication and volunteered geographic information.
• Grants & Collaborations: Principal Investigator for TU Berlin-Huawei Wireless Joint Innovation Center (2021), BIFOLD (Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data) project (2020), and ERC-funded BigEarth (2017).
