Beatriz Baselga-Cervera

Beatriz Baselga-Cervera is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior at the College of Biological Sciences, University of Minnesota. Her research integrates microbial experimental evolution and bioprospecting to address questions spanning ecology, evolution, and genetics.

• Current research focuses on:
• Bioprospecting microalgae/bacteria from extreme environments for adaptation and biotechnology studies
• Evolution of complexity through genotype-phenotype-environment interactions during multicellularity transitions
• Experimental evolution and bioprospecting integration to study freshwater microbial diversity

She specializes in microbial interactions, global change impacts on evolution, and discovery of novel biological functions with potential biotechnological applications.

Dr. Baselga-Cervera also leads community-centered outreach programs targeting Spanish-speaking communities, emphasizing mentoring and field/laboratory research integration.
