About
Dr. Beate Krause serves as Deputy Head of the Department of Functional Nanocomposites and Blends at the Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research Dresden (IPF Dresden), a leading non-university research institute in Germany. Her work focuses on the development and characterization of advanced polymer composites incorporating carbon nanotubes and other carbon allotropes.
Her primary research interests include
- Production of composites through melt and solution mixing techniques
- Investigation of processing conditions' effects on electrical conductivity and morphology
- Characterization of CNT dispersion stability and particle size distribution
- Development of polymer-based thermoelectric materials
- Creation of highly filled composites for bipolar plates and heat exchangers
- Engineering of polymer-based conducting foils for battery applications
Dr. Krause employs a wide range of advanced characterization techniques including melt mixing with Xplore Microcompounder, light microscopy, ARES rheometry, SEM, TEM, electrical resistance measurements, and LUMiSizer® separation analysis. Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on optimizing thermoelectric performance, electrical percolation thresholds, and processing-structure-property relationships in carbon nanotube polymer composites.
She actively participates in multiple significant research projects including HORIZON-EIC-2023-PATHFINDEROPEN-01 GlaS-A-Fuels (2024-2027), BMWK-ZIM-Projekt Heileit (2024-2026), BiPoLiS lithium-sulfur battery development (2023-2025), and several BMBF-funded initiatives focused on electrically conductive polymer composites dating back to 2009.
