Beate Jessel is a Full Professor at the Laboratory of Landscape Development within the Institute of Architecture, part of the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). She also holds additional roles as Host Professor in the Institute of Infrastructure Engineering (IIE) and as Full Professor in the Teaching Committees of the School for Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (SAR) and the School for Engineering Sciences in the Environment (SSIE).
Her research and teaching focus on landscape architecture and urban planning, with particular emphasis on the history of park and garden design, the planning of multifunctional green spaces, and sustainable urban development. She explores innovative approaches to building green and blue infrastructures and addresses urban transitions through systems thinking.
Professor Jessel leads the Laboratory of Landscape Development, which investigates the role of green spaces in urban environments and contributes to the development of sustainable cities through design and planning.
