About
Bazlur Rashid is an Associate Professor of Biology and Biotechnology at the College of Science and Engineering, University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL). His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of protein/enzyme regulation, gene cloning in human diseases, chimeric protein expression, and DNA replication pathways. He has been actively involved in vaccine development and chemotherapy-related studies.
- Affiliations: UHCL (since at least 2003), NIH-NICHD grant PI
- Grants: NIH-NICHD AREA Grant ($341,934, 2010-2013); UHCL Faculty Research Support Fund ($22,790, 2003-2010)
His research interests include exploring protein interactions in human testis, nitric oxide synthase biology, microRNA roles in cancer drug resistance, and molecular solutions for climate-resilient crops. He has published widely in journals like Biomolecules, Journal of Biomedicine, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
- Awards: Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA Fellowship (2000), Monbusho Scholarship (Japan, 1989), Bangladesh National Board Scholarship (1980)
Collaborative work includes studies on novel protein partners in human testis and mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance in ovarian cancer. His book Methods of Biotechnology (2016, Wiley-Blackwell) consolidates his contributions to biotechnological methodologies.
