Bascom Guffin

Bascom Guffin is a Sessional Instructor in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology at Simon Fraser University (SFU). He holds a PhD in sociocultural anthropology from the University of California, Davis, an MFA in film from Columbia University, and an MA in international affairs from New School University. His research focuses on urbanization dynamics, particularly examining affluent tech industry professionals in Hyderabad's Cyberabad area. This work explores mobility cultures, including career ambitions, migration patterns, urban transportation, and interactions with regulatory frameworks. Additional research interests include sensory studies, urban religious practices, and technology's role in daily life.

Currently teaching SA 101 D100 (Introduction to Anthropology) and SA 322 E100 (Religion and Society), his courses emphasize sociocultural contexts and contemporary urban challenges. Fieldwork has been conducted in New York City, Johannesburg, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.
