About
Dr. Bas Boots is a Senior Lecturer in Biology at Anglia Ruskin University's Faculty of Science and Engineering, School of Life Sciences. He holds an MSc in Soil Water Atmosphere from Wageningen University, Netherlands, and a PhD in Environmental Microbiology from University College Dublin. His interdisciplinary research bridges ecology, microbiology, and biogeochemistry to study ecosystem functioning.
Research interests focus on microbial communities, anthropogenic pollution, and ecosystem interactions. Key areas include microplastic pollution effects, soil remediation strategies, pathogen detection technologies, and organic amendment optimization. His work examines relationships between biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, and environmental disturbances across soil, water, and sediment systems.
Dr. Boots' publications predominantly explore environmental pollution impacts, with recent work analyzing microplastic contamination in terrestrial ecosystems and cigarette butt effects on marine organisms. His research demonstrates consistent focus on anthropogenic stressors across diverse habitats.
He currently supervises multiple PhD projects on microplastic remediation, soil health improvement, and bacterial siderophore production. As member of Applied Ecology and Biomedical Research Groups, Dr. Boots contributes to both ecological and biomedical research communities through collaborative projects.
