Bartolomeo DICHIO

Bartolomeo DICHIO is a Full Professor in General Arboriculture and Tree Crops (AGR/03) at the Department of European and Mediterranean Cultures: Architecture, Environment, Cultural Heritage (DiCEM) of the University of Basilicata. His career spans over two decades, including roles as Associate Professor in Pomology (2004) and General Arboriculture and Tree Crops (AGR/03) since 2017. He has also contributed to research and teaching at the Department of Crop, Forestry and Environmental Science (DIPSISTEMI) and collaborated internationally at HortResearch in New Zealand.

• PhD in Plant Productivity (University of Basilicata, 1994)

His research focuses on ecophysiological mechanisms in plants, sustainable management practices, and water relations in fruit crops. Key areas include canopy/soil management, nutrient uptake, water-use efficiency, deficit irrigation strategies, and environmental sustainability metrics like water and carbon footprints. He has developed tools for irrigation decision-making and promoted low-energy orchard practices.

Bartolomeo DICHIO has conducted extended research collaborations in New Zealand (1995-2001) and contributed to advancing sustainable agricultural systems through interdisciplinary approaches integrating plant physiology and environmental resource management.
