Bart Danon

Dr. Bart Danon is an Assistant Professor of Ancient History at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Arts. His research focuses on the socio-economic history of the Roman Empire (1st BCE–3rd CE), emphasizing inequality, slavery, urbanisation, and military logistics. He holds a PhD (dr.) and engineering degree (ir.), with expertise in Roman economic structures and warfare analysis.

Research interests include reconstructing wealth distributions in Pompeii, analyzing Caesar's rhetorical strategies, and examining mass violence in Roman conflicts. He contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through historical insights on inequality. His work is affiliated with the Research Centre for Historical Studies (CHS).

Key publications include a chapter on senatorial wealth in Pompeii (2022), an edited volume on historical probability methods (2022), and a 2018 article on Caesar's celeritas (speed) rhetoric. He organized the 2023 MRN Seminar on Roman wealth analysis.
