Barry Yau is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the ANU School of Legal Practice within the ANU College of Law. He holds degrees including BA, LLB (Monash), GDLP (ANU), LLM (Queensland), and is SFHEA-recognized. He has been a full-time ANU staff member since 2012, convening courses like Commercial Practice and Consumer Law. Previously, he worked as a lawyer in government/private practice and managed the EU-funded SAFE Project in the UK.
Research focuses on law student attitudes toward commercial practice, work-life balance, and career trajectories. His longitudinal study since 2013 tracks law graduates' career paths and wellness. Teaching integrates research through blogs on legal ethics and pop culture. He received the 2020 ANU Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning.
Key publications address legal education reform, corporate consumer law, and qualitative studies on lawyer career choices. Active in conferences since 2013, presenting on legal pedagogy and ethics. Current research continues exploring law student perceptions and practitioner realities in commercial law.
