Barry Torres

Barry Torres is an Adjunct Professor in the Music Department at St. Lawrence University (SLU), where he served as Director of Music Ensembles from 1998 to 2023. His roles included directing the Laurentian Singers, University Chorus, Early Music Singers, and co-directing the Gospel Choir and Band. He specializes in early music, particularly a cappella choral repertoire from the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque eras, and is an accomplished countertenor. Torres founded the Schola Cantorum of Syracuse, a professional early music ensemble now in its 35th season.

Education: B.M. in Music Theory from Syracuse University. Professional memberships include the American Choral Directors Association and Early Music America. He teaches private voice lessons and ensemble courses. Contact: Griffiths Arts Center, 315-229-5171.
