Barbara Welch

Barbara Welch, DNP, MS, RN, EBP-C is an Associate Professor and Simulation Education Coordinator at the Mount Carmel College of Nursing. She has held this position since 2017 and is affiliated with the Center for Innovative Learning (CIL). Welch maintains active professional engagement through memberships in organizations like the American Nurses Association, Ohio Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International.

• Education: Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Mount Carmel College of Nursing (2021), Master of Science in Nursing from Excelsior College of New York (2013), Nursing Diploma from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing (1995), Medical Specialist training from U.S. Army Ft. Sam Houston (1991), and A.A.S. in Medical Assisting from Youngstown State University (1990).

Her research interests focus on simulation education methodologies, clinical informatics applications, and emergency nursing practices. With over 25 years of clinical experience across diverse healthcare settings, Welch contributes expertise in both direct patient care and educational technology implementation.

Welch has served in leadership roles including President of the Mid-Ohio District Nurses Association (2014-2018) and Secretary of the American Nursing Informatics Association since 2017. Her professional trajectory spans military service as a combat medic, hospital informatics roles, and academic leadership in nursing simulation education.
