Barbara Thiede

Barbara Thiede is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Missouri-Columbia and an additional M.A. from UNC Charlotte's Religious Studies department. Research Focus: Specializes in Hebrew Bible textual analysis with emphasis on masculinity studies, gender representation, and deity characterization. Current book projects include:

• 'Male Friendship, Homosociality, and Women in the Hebrew Bible: Malignant Fraternities' (Routledge, 2022)
• 'Rape Culture in the House of David: A Company of Men' (Routledge, 2022)
• 'Yhwh’s Emotional and Sexual Life in the Books of Samuel: How the Deity Acts the Man' (forthcoming, Bloomsbury Press)

Teaching: Offers undergraduate courses (RELS 2000, 2104, 3000, 4000) and graduate seminars (RELS 5000) on biblical texts, gender, and sexuality. Community engagement includes public lectures on Hebrew Bible literary features and gender dynamics.
