About
Barbara Shaw is an Associate Professor and Co-chair of Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at Allegheny College. She is affiliated with Black Studies, Global Health Studies, and Public Humanities. Her interdisciplinary work bridges feminist theory, queer theory, and global health.

Shaw’s research focuses on intersectional and transnational feminist/queer theory, critical global women’s health, and Caribbean diasporic cultures. Her scholarship also addresses gendered violence and innovative feminist pedagogies.

Shaw mentors students and collaborates across disciplines to drive curricular transformation at Allegheny College, in the Great Lakes region, and nationally. She has served as Director of Interdisciplinary Studies (2019–2023).
