About
Prof. Dr. Barbara Röhrnbauer is a Professor for Tissue Biomechanics at the ZHAW School of Engineering, focusing on the mechanical properties of soft tissues and implant materials. She also serves as a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and Deputy Programme Director for the BSc Mechanical Engineering program. Her research integrates soft tissue biomechanics, finite element modeling, and mechanical biocompatibility of implants.
Her recent work involves 3D MRI analysis of pelvic floor muscles, mechanobiology of fibroblasts in nanofibrous materials, and tailored mechanical properties of artificial tissue models. Publications highlight her expertise in prosthetic mesh characterization, implant-tissue interaction, and in vivo mechanical testing.
She is a member of the Swiss Society for Biomedical Engineering (SSBE) Board since 2024. Her teaching responsibilities include courses in Mechanics - Kinematics and Kinetics, Strength of Materials, and Finite Element Method for Mechanical Engineering students.
