Barbara L. Bass, MD, is the Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean of the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), holding the Walter A. Bloedorn Chair of Administrative Medicine. A GW residency alumna (1986), she previously served as Chair of Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital, building its department from inception, and founded the Houston Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation, and Education. Her leadership spans roles such as President of the American College of Surgeons and Chair of the American Board of Surgery.
