Barbara Klessig is a part-time Lecturer in Archaeology at the Department of Anthropology, California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt. She specializes in textile archaeology, burial studies, experimental/experiential archaeology, gender studies in archaeology, and environmental/landscape archaeology across Europe, Scandinavia, and the British Islands. Her work also extends to Cultural Resource Management in Northern California regions.
Education:
- Bachelor's in Anthropology/Archaeology from Cal Poly Humboldt
- Master's in Environment & Community from Cal Poly Humboldt
Research Interests: Barb's research integrates material culture analysis with gender studies and environmental contexts. She employs experimental methods to reconstruct ancient textile techniques and burial practices, contributing to understanding prehistoric households and societal structures. Her regional focus spans Scandinavia and the British Isles, with applied work in CRM.
Teaching & Leadership: Co-directs the Geospatial Archaeology Research Center (GARC). Teaches courses in Experimental Archaeology, Archaeology Lab Methods, Material Culture, and Viking Studies. Office located in Behavioral & Social Sciences Building, Room 506.
