Barbara J. Grosz is Higgins Research Professor of Natural Sciences Emerita at Harvard SEAS. Her pioneering research developed computational models for natural-language dialogue and multi-agent collaboration systems.
Research interests include human-computer communication frameworks, team-oriented AI systems, and applications in healthcare coordination and education. Her work established foundational theories for computer-agent systems functioning as collaborative partners.
Major honors include the ACM/AAAI Allen Newell Award, IJCAI Research Excellence Award, ACL Lifetime Achievement Award, and fellowship in six scholarly academies. She co-founded Harvard's Embedded Ethics program and Stanford's Center for Language and Information.
