Barbara Evans is a Senior Lecturer in Education at the University of Sunderland within the Faculty of Education and Society. She has held various roles at the university including Senior Lecturer in Education, Principal Lecturer, and Team Leader for Secondary Initial Teacher Education programs.
Her research focuses on the professional development of teachers, particularly examining how experienced school teachers function as mentors in developing beginning teachers during the PGCE training year. She has extensive experience teaching in schools and colleges across the UK, including in London, prior to her university career.
Currently, she serves as a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) for PGCE (DL) and the SCITT programs, engaging with teachers internationally to discuss teaching and learning in both local and global contexts. She teaches on the PGCE Education (DL) program and previously managed Secondary Initial Teacher Education undergraduate and postgraduate programs until 2017.
