Barbara Chyrowicz

Prof. Barbara Chyrowicz is a Full Professor at the Department of Ethics, Faculty of Philosophy, Catholic University of Lublin. She earned her doctorate in 1996 with a dissertation on the Principle of Double Effect and habilitated in 2000 with work on bioethics and genetic risks. Since 2002, she has led the Department of Ethics and served as editor-in-chief of Roczniki Filozoficzne.

Her research focuses on bioethics, metaethics, and the philosophy of medicine, with particular emphasis on moral dilemmas, the Principle of Double Effect, and ethical implications of genetic/medical advancements. Her 15 most recent articles explore topics like xenotransplantation ethics, moral luck, neurobiological recalibration of ethics, and unresolvable bioethical dilemmas.

She has received prestigious awards including the Silver Cross of Merit (2002) and the Rector's First Degree Award (2005). Barbara Chyrowicz actively participates in international bioethics organizations such as the European Society for Philosophy of Medicine and Health Care (ESPMH) and serves on editorial boards of journals like Roczniki Filozoficzne and Ethos. Her academic leadership includes roles in Poland's Committee on Ethics in Science and founding membership in the Polish Bioethical Society.
