About
Dr. Barbara Bayer is Assistant Professor at the Division of Microbial Ecology, University of Vienna. Her research investigates microbial processes governing carbon and nitrogen cycles in aquatic ecosystems through isotope techniques, cultivation, and multi-omics approaches.
Research focuses on:
- Microbe-environment interactions in oceans/lakes
- Microbial methane cycling paradoxes
- Nitrogen transformation processes
- Novel microorganism discovery
Her ERC Starting Grant examines eutrophication impacts on methane cycling. Publications analyze metabolic responses of chemolithoautotrophs, ammonia oxidizer contributions to carbon fixation, and metabolite-mediated microbial interactions.
Awards: ERC Starting Grant; FWF START Award
