About
Baki Agbas is Professor of Biosciences at Kansas City University, leading research on biomarker development for neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's and ALS. His laboratory investigates mitochondrial dysfunction, brain-derived exosomes, and proteolytic systems to identify blood-based diagnostic tools.
Research focuses on four key areas:
- Blood-based biomarkers using platelets/exosomes
- Mitochondrial respiration profiles
- Neural exosome characterization
- Dysfunctional proteolytic pathways
Recent publications (2020-2024) demonstrate consistent focus on TDP-43 protein dynamics across ALS and Alzheimer's models, with methodological innovations in exosome isolation and platelet biomarker validation. Collaborative clinical trials include Rasagilin-80 and oxaloacetate therapies.
The laboratory maintains active collaborations with University of Kansas Medical Center on NIH-funded biomarker validation projects and clinical trial support.
