About
Bahman Rostami-Tabar is a Professor of Data-Driven Decision Science at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University (United Kingdom). He leads the 'Uncertainty & the Future' theme at the Digital Transformation Innovation Institute and directs the Data Lab for Social Good Research Group and the Forecasting for Social Good committee at the International Institute of Forecasters. His research focuses on leveraging probabilistic modeling, forecasting, and operational research for social good, particularly in healthcare, global health, humanitarian logistics, and governmental policy.
His work spans three core areas: conceptual frameworks for forecasting's role in achieving Sustainable Development Goals, methodological advancements in time series analysis and temporal aggregation, and practical applications in emergency medical services, humanitarian supply chains, and healthcare operations. Collaborations include the NHS, USAID, ICRC, and Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Service.
Recent research emphasizes probabilistic forecasting for emergency department resource allocation and hierarchical time series methods in healthcare systems. His work aims to democratize forecasting tools, especially in low-income regions, through initiatives like the 'Democratizing Forecasting' project.
