Bahar Hashemi

Bahar Hashemi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), appointed to the Teaching Stream in 2023.

Her research spans critical sociological domains with emphasis on:

• Gender dynamics in transnational migration contexts
• Precarious citizenship and labor conditions
• Family structures among immigrant communities
• Feminist theoretical frameworks

Her doctoral work analyzed gendered negotiations of Iranian women in transnational families under precarious legal status in Toronto. Current research investigates community formation in large introductory sociology courses and its correlation with student academic outcomes.
