B. V. Phani

B. V. Phani is a Professor in the Department of Management Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, where he also holds the Ram Tiwari Chair. His academic and administrative roles include serving as Chief Investigator at E&ICT Academy, Principal Investigator at SBERTC, and former Dean (Resources & Alumni). He has taught at institutions like IIM Calcutta, University of Connecticut, and SP Jain, with a focus on Finance, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.

• Education: PhD from IIM Calcutta (2003), BE in Mechanical Engineering from MVSR College (1986)

His research explores corporate governance, blockchain applications in SME finance, and green entrepreneurship, particularly in emerging economies. Recent work includes frameworks for waste-preneurship and blockchain-based receivables management. He has received 15+ Senate commendations for teaching and contributed to national policies on technology innovation and startup ecosystems. As an advisor, he has mentored 100+ startups and supervised infrastructure projects like 11 incubators and 5 prototype labs. His policy work includes India’s Faculty Entrepreneurship Policy and the UP Startup Policy Framework.
