Azra Bihorac, M.D., MS FCCM, FASN, is the Senior Associate Dean for Research Affairs at the University of Florida College of Medicine and holds the R. Glenn Davis Professorship across multiple departments. She leads the Intelligent Critical Care Center (IC³), advancing AI-driven solutions for acute and critical care. Her research focuses on AI applications in clinical decision-making, healthcare equity, and patient outcomes, with emphasis on acute kidney injury (AKI), surgical complications, and ICU delirium prediction.
Education: Medical Degree (1990, University of Sarajevo), Internal Medicine Residency (2005, University of Florida), and fellowships in Critical Care Medicine (2006) and Nephrology (2003). She also holds a Master’s in Clinical Research (2011) from the University of Florida.
Research interests include federated learning for data privacy, wearable sensor integration, and human-centered AI development. Her work bridges clinical practice and innovation, addressing challenges in AI ethics, SDoH data utilization, and global healthcare system transformation. She advocates for women's equity in academic medicine and leadership roles.
