About
Dr Azmil Abdul-Rahim is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow, affiliated with the School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health and the Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology. His work focuses on cardiovascular and neurological health, particularly the interplay between atrial fibrillation, stroke outcomes, and anticoagulant therapy. He collaborates with global registries such as SITS-ISTR and contributes to evidence-based clinical guidelines.
Research interests include biomarkers for atrial fibrillation detection post-stroke, risk stratification for thromboembolic recurrence, and optimizing anticoagulant use in acute stroke patients. He has pioneered studies like the ALESSA score and RAF-NOACs initiative, addressing critical gaps in stroke management and heart failure comorbidities. His work spans translational research, meta-analyses, and health economics evaluations to improve patient care.
He has secured grants from Pfizer (2019–2021) and the Stroke Association (2018–2020), supporting projects such as the IMPROVE-AF quality improvement initiative and investigations into anticoagulant timing. Collaborations with experts like Prof. Kennedy Lees and Prof. Alan Cameron underscore his role in multidisciplinary teams advancing stroke and cardiovascular research.
