Avril A Powell

Dr. Avril A Powell is an Emeritus Reader in the Department of History at SOAS University of London's School of History, Religions and Philosophies. She holds a BA from the University of Cambridge, PGCE certification, and PhD from the University of London. Her research examines historical interactions between Islam and Christianity in South Asia, Islamic gender dynamics, and the role of textbooks in historical education.

Dr. Powell's work analyzes religious syncretism and educational policy impacts in colonial and post-colonial contexts, with particular emphasis on Muslim communities in Bengal and Mughal historiography.
