Avila Santo (b. 1991, Los Angeles, CA) is a multi-disciplinary artist and Capoeira professor currently pursuing an MFA in Art at an unspecified institution (expected graduation 2027). He graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music in 2014 with a B.A. in Professional Music and Latin Percussion.
Research Interests: Avila explores the intersection of rhythm, drumming, and cultural philosophies, focusing on their relationships to:
- The natural world
- Diasporic movement
- Non-linear time
Grants & Collaborations: He has received commissions from A24, LACMA, HBO, Sony Music, Ghetto Film School, and Creative Capital. Notable collaborations include work with Khalil Joseph, Terence Nance, and Allison Saar.
