Avery P. Gilbert

Avery P. Gilbert serves as a Clinical Lecturer in Law and Associate Research Scholar in Law at Yale Law School, while also functioning as Partner at Engage Strategies. Her 20-year career focuses on strategic advocacy, federal/state policy analysis, and impact litigation targeting social justice and criminal justice reform. She holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law (2006) and a B.A. from Skidmore College (1998).

Her research and professional practice emphasizes reducing mass incarceration through litigation, climate policy advocacy (e.g., analyzing Clinton administration climate tax incentives), and complex commercial dispute resolution involving antitrust, intellectual property, and tort matters. She has contributed to multi-state greenhouse gas litigation strategies while working with the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and New York State Attorney General’s Office.

Professional experience includes litigation at Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP and policy analysis at the Center for Sustainable Advocacy. Current affiliations combine academic clinical instruction with external strategic advisory roles.
