Austin Collins

Dr. Austin Collins is a historian affiliated with the University of Tübingen's Department of History in the Faculty of Humanities. As a 2024–2025 Teach@Tübingen Fellow, he focuses on early modern European history, particularly urban, religious, and spatial approaches to the French Wars of Religion and monarchical authority. His research integrates archival materials like festival books, city council records, and maps.

• Education: PhD from Durham University & Universität Erfurt (2019–2023), MA in Early Modern History from King’s College London (2018–2019), BA in History and French from Catawba College (2014–2018)

His work examines royal tours in France (1564–1566) and the interplay between civic, religious, and royal agency in urban spaces. Recent publications address topics such as historical urbanity, spatial analysis, and peripheral cities.

Collins has tutored early modern European history at Durham University (2020–2021, 2022–2023) and contributes to the KFG ‘Religion & Urbanity: Reciprocal Formations’ project through workshops, podcasts, and blog posts. His teaching includes seminars on urban spaces in the global early modern period.
