Austan D. Goolsbee is the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he has been a faculty member since 1995. He previously served as Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and a member of the President's cabinet, as well as chief economist and chief of staff for Paul Volcker at the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board.
Goolsbee's research focuses on Internet economics, the new economy, government policy, taxation, and empirical public finance. His work has significant implications for understanding how digital technologies affect markets, consumer behavior, and tax policy. He has published extensively in top economics journals on topics ranging from e-commerce to corporate taxation.
His recent research has examined pandemic economic effects, construction sector productivity, and monopsony power in higher education. He has taught courses including Economics and Policy in the TMT Industries, Empirical Public Finance, Strategy and the Information Economy, and Microeconomics.
