Aura Timen

Prof. Aura Timen is an Endowed Professor at the Athena Institute and Network Institute within the Faculty of Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). She holds an ancillary appointment at the Radboud University Medical Center (Radboudumc) in Nijmegen since 2022. Her research focuses on infectious disease management, public health policy, and pandemic preparedness, with contributions to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.

Key projects include Evidence in Actie, which integrates experiential knowledge and artificial intelligence to inform healthcare guidelines, particularly for pandemic responses like the 2020–2021 vaccination efforts. She has supervised 4 PhD theses and collaborates internationally on topics like focus group studies, social network analysis, and One Health frameworks.

Her recent work analyzes public perception of pandemic management, healthcare practices for multidrug-resistant organisms, and stakeholder dynamics in disease preparedness. She has published 143+ peer-reviewed articles, including high-impact studies on COVID-19, Q fever, and mosquito-borne viruses.
