Augusta McMahon is a Professor of Mesopotamian Archaeology at the University of Chicago, affiliated with the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures. She rejoined the University of Chicago in 2022 after teaching at the University of Cambridge since 1995.
- Research Focus: Late Prehistoric and Historic Mesopotamia (5th–1st millennia BC), Early Urbanism, Urban Challenges, Social Stress and Warfare, Political Economy, Sensory Archaeology
- Fieldwork: Directed excavations at Chagar Bazar, Tell Brak (Syria), and Lagash (Iraq); extensive work in Yemen, Egypt, and Turkey
- Roles: Director of Graduate Studies in NELC
