Attila Simon

Professor Attila Simon, PhD, is the head of the Department of History at the Faculty of Education, University of J. Selye. His work focuses on 20th-century Slovak and Hungarian minority history.

• 1984–1989: MA in Hungarian Language & Literature - History, Comenius University, Faculty of Humanities
• 2001–2005: PhD in History, University of Pécs
• 2011: Habilitation in History, University of Pécs

His research examines Slovak-Hungarian ethnic dynamics, religious organizations under socialism, and political party evolution. Key projects include VEGA-funded studies on Czechoslovakia's Hungarian minority (1930–1938) and the Reform Christian Church's history (1919–1952, 1948–1989).

Recent publications in Historický časopis analyze national hymns as conflict sources (2024), southern Slovakia internment (2020), and interwar Hungarian political disputes (2016). He contributes to Central European Papers and Forum Historiae editorial boards.

Grants include VEGA projects (2012–2023) on Hungarian minority policies and church-state relations. He leads the Department of History since 2005 and directs the Forum Institute for Minority Research (2001–present).
