Atsuko Suga Borgmann is an Associate Teaching Professor of East Asian Studies at Brown University. She holds a Master’s degree in Asian Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is currently pursuing a PhD in Urban Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). With two decades of experience teaching Japanese language and culture at UWM, she coordinated the Japanese program and developed undergraduate curricula.

Her research centers on language pedagogy, particularly multimodal learning strategies and their impact on Japanese language acquisition. She explores technology integration, content-based instruction, and task-based methodologies in second language education.
Borgmann has received multiple scholarships and awards, including the Pi Lambda Theta Lura Carrithers Scholarship (2018) and two Amy Tessmer Boening Scholarships (2018-2019 and 2017-2018). She was recognized for teaching excellence at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and holds certifications as an Oral Proficiency Interview Tester from ACTFL.
She is affiliated with the American Association of Teachers of Japanese, American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, Wisconsin Association of Foreign Language Teachers, and Wisconsin Association of Teachers of Japanese.
