Atle Klovning

Atle Klovning is an Associate Professor at the University of Oslo's Department of General Practice. His primary research interests include Evidence-Based Medicine, Medical Web Research, and guidelines development. He has extensively studied urinary incontinence, antenatal care, and acupuncture efficacy in conditions like low back pain and infantile colic. Over the past two decades, his work has focused on improving clinical trial methodologies, digital health tools for data collection, and cost-effectiveness analyses in primary care settings.

Notable contributions include the Acuback study on acupuncture for low back pain and development of the SESAMe tool for clinical trial monitoring. He has also contributed to national guidelines for inappropriate medication use in nursing homes and quality indicators for rheumatic disease rehabilitation. His recent work explores digital psychoeducation for adolescent depression and analysis of online health content.

Active in academic governance roles, Klovning serves on the General Practice Research Committee (AFU) and Norway's National Health Library advisory group. His interdisciplinary research bridges clinical practice, epidemiology, and health informatics with over 50 peer-reviewed publications since 1996.
