Atiya Mahmood is Professor and Graduate Chair in Gerontology at Simon Fraser University. Trained in environment-behavior studies with a PhD from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, her research investigates health and built environments for aging populations. She specializes in mobility, housing insecurity, and neighborhood design for older adults and persons with disabilities. Dr. Mahmood is an Alexander Von Humboldt Fellow and serves on editorial boards including the Journal of Aging and Environment.
Research Focus: Her work examines the intersection of aging, disability, and urban environments with emphasis on 'aging in the right place', homelessness interventions, and inclusive community design.
