Atif Rasheed

Atif Rasheed is a Senior Lecturer in Engineering and Course Director for Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kent within the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, with approximately 15 years of teaching and research experience.

His educational background includes a fully funded PhD in Mechanical Engineering, a fully funded MSc by Research in Materials Science from the University of Oxford, a fully funded MS in Nanotechnology, and a partially funded B.Sc. (Hons.) in Engineering. He achieved first position and double-gold medals in undergraduate studies and equivalent O/A-level examinations.

His research spans advanced materials development with emphasis on:

• Polymer nanocomposites for structural applications
• Piezoelectric energy harvesting systems
• Ultraviolet sensors for water contaminant detection
• Nanocrystal growth on substrates
• Sports equipment innovation (commercial field hockey sticks)
• Powder metallurgy techniques

He received recognition as Exceptional Talent by the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK.

His career includes three postdoctoral fellowships and consistent merit-based funding, resulting in industry collaborations that produced commercially deployed sports technology. Research grants and student supervision are integral to his role as Course Director.

His work bridges academic research with practical applications through partnerships with sports industries and environmental monitoring initiatives.
